In 1910, "James C. Elson," 24, was a lodger in the Home of John and Mary Smith, in Chicago. He was a clerk for a manufacturing co. 1910 U.S. Census, Ward 3, Chicago, Cook Cnty, IL (T 624, Roll 243, stamped p. 214).
    • According to his WW I draft registration card (Chicago, IL; 5 Jun 1917), "James Chas. Olson," 30, was born 6 Aug 1886 in Chicago, IL. He was employed as a "cost accountant." He was married and had a child.
    • In the 1920 census (enumerated 2 Jan 1920) "James E. Elson," 33, a married accountant for an "Elec. His wife and child were not with him. 1920 U.S. Census, Racine, Racine Cnty, WI (T 625, Roll 2012, stamped p. 1 B).

Four days later, on 6 Jan 1920, James had returned to Chicago; the census shows James C Elson, 31 [sic], living with his wife Louise, 30, and their daughter Dorothy, 8. All had been born in IL. • James may have been a commuter, traveling between Chicago and Racine, WI. The two cities are only about 80 miles apart. However, Jim and Louise did live in Racine for a long enough period of time to be listed in Wright's Racine City Directory, 1921, p. 387 (Wright Directory Co., Milwaukee, WI; 1921). That directory provides: "Elson Jas C (Louise B) acct Webster Elec Co h 3424 Kinzie av."
