    • The 1930 census indicates that Alan, 7 yrs old and born in Connecticut, was living with his parents Eva and Ralph E. Knight, and brother Ralph A., in the home of his mother's parents, Archie and Gertrude Campbell. 1930 U.S. Census, Sherwood, Washington Cnty, OR (T 626, Roll 1957, stamped p. 189).
    • The 1940 census lists his grandfather "Archie Campbell", 79, a widower, living on Tualatin Road in Washington County, OR, with his daughter Eva C, 46, her husband Ralph E Knight, 46, and their two children: Alan C Knight, 17; and "R. Archie" Knight, 14. The census records that Archie was born in Canada; Eva in Oregon; Ralph in North Dakota; and the two boys in Connecticut. It further states that Archie was a famer with his "own business" while Ralph was a "Retail Salesman" of "Rented Products." 1940 U.S. Census, Prct 2, Washington Cnty, OR (T 627, Roll 3382, stamped p. 15B).
    • According to his WW II enlistment records, Alan enlisted into the U.S. Army Air Corps; he was born in 1922, had finished 2 years of college education, he was 70 inches tall and weighed 152 pounds.

      According to his cousin Kathi Iliinsky Snouffer, Alan obtained a degree from Univ. of California at Berkeley and was a chemical engineer who worked for duPont.

      At the time of his mother Eva's death in January 1973, Alan was living at 21 Valley View Drive, Vienna, W. Va. 26105. Records at the Riverview Abbey Mausoleum, 0319 SW Taylors Ferry Rd, Portland, OR, indicate that Alan arranged for Eva's cremation in W. Va. and then shipped her remains to Oregon for interrment at the Abbey.

      "Alan Campbell Knight
      "Wilmington - Alan Campbell Knight passed away on November 17, 2018. He was 96 years old.
      "Alan Knight was born November 2, 1922 in Hartford, CT, to Ralph E. Knight, a preacher, and Eva Campbell Knight, an English teacher. When Alan was about 5 years old, the family returned to Ralph and Eva's home state of Oregon. Alan went to public school in the Willamette Valley and graduated from Beaverton High School. In his third year to Oregon State College, the fall of 1942, Alan volunteered for the Army during WW II. After serving in various locations in the U.S. and the Philippines, he was honorabley discharged in 1946. In 1947, he married Edith Griffith, with whom he had two daughters, Katherine and Rebecca. With the aid of the GI Bill, he finished College in 1950 with a PhD in Chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley. Also in 1950 he went to work for the DuPont Company, working until retirement in 1987. In 1970, Alan married Loretta Eickhoff. They lived in Wilmington, DE, Parkersburg, WV and Kennett Square, PA. Together they enjoyed traveling the world extensively throughout their marriage and into retirement.
      "In his long career with DuPont, Alan worked on the development of Teflon, Lucite, polyethylene, and nylon intermediates in locations in Wilmington, DE, Victoria and Orange, TX, as well as Parkersburg, WV. He was very active and enjoyed square dancing, ballroom dancing, musical theater, bridge, reading, book discussion and gardening. Alan had a special love of opera and took Italian classes at Ohio Univeristy to better appreciate and understand it in its native language.
      "He is survived by Rebeca Knight Coalson and her husband, William, their children, Timothy and Jennifer, her husband Matthew, their children Clara and Henry, of St. Louis, MO. He is also survived by his wife Loretta, her son John Gaadt and his wife, Suzanne and their children, Ian and Giulia, of Chadds Ford, and a granddaughter, Hanna Lokken and her husband, Andrew Lee, of New York City....
      "Services and burial in Longwood Cemetery will be private."
