    • The 1900 census records his mother, Elizabeth Adkins, a 56-yr old widow, living with three sons: William T, 22, born Sep 1877; Ransom F, 20, born Jun 1880; and Joseph J, 15, bon Jul 1884. All the boys were born in Ohio. Elizabeth managed the family farm; all three boys worked as farm laborers. 1900 U.S. Census, Windsor Twsp, Larence Cnty, OH (T 623, Roll 1292, stamped p. 187B).
    • "Jefferson J Adkins," 25, married Anice Rowe, 17, on 9 Mar 1911 in Lawrence Cnty, OH. His parents were listed as "Jos Adkins" and "Elizabeth Wall;" her parents as "Wm Rowe" and "Ella Turner." https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:2QCC-KDY (LDS Film 001574145).
    • His WW I draft registration card (12 Sep 1918) records his name as Joseph Jefferson Adkins, 34, born 16 Jul 1884. He was a self-employed farmer, living in "Scot Town," Lawrence Cnty, OH. His "nearest relative" was Annis Adkins.
    • In 1920 the census records "Jeff Adkins," 35, living with his wife "Anna Adkins," 27, and the following children: Ray, 7; Mae, 4 & 1/2; and "Glennie," 1 & 9/12. Also living with them was Joseph's (Jeff's) mother, Elizabeth, 78. All had been born in Ohio. Joseph/Jeff was a farmer. 1920 U.S. Census, Windsor Twsp, Lawrence Cnty, OH (T 625, Roll 1400, stamped p. 298)[census taken 16 Jan 1920].
    • The 1940 census lists "Jefferson Adkins," 53, living with his wife "Annice," 47, and daughter Glenna, 21. Joe/Jeff was employed as a "Farmhand." 1940 U.S. Census, Union Twsp, Lawrence Cnty, OH (T 627, Roll 3097, stamped p. 531). [One has to assume that the census taker must have been very confused by that facts that brothers were married to sisters, and all were living next door to the in-laws, and may have been present in different homes on census day.]
