  • Notes
    • The 1900 census lists Daniel B Snouffer, 28, born Apr 1872 in Virginia to Virginia parents, living with his wife of 9 years, Belle, 29, born June 1870 in New York, to parents also born in New York, and their daughter Hazel, 7, born Sept 1892 in Colorado. Daniel was employed as a farmer, and Hazel was "at school." A farm laborer or hired man, William Dolly, also lived in the household. 1900 U.S. Census, Montclair Prct, Arapahoe Cnty, CO (T 623, Roll 120, stamped p. 177).
    • The Denver [CO] Post, p. 7 (21 Sep 1909):
"Asks Divorce and Accuses Another Woman
"Mrs. Ada Belle Snouffer charges in a complaint filed for divorce in the district court that Daniel B. Snouffer has left her and her son and daughter and taken up his home with Rose R. Gray, alias Rose R. Manney, at Colorado Springs. She alleges that they are living together in that city and that Snouffer conducts a livery stable ... there.
"Mrs. Snouffer also alleges that her husband has property in Denver to the value of several thousand dollars which she fears he will convey in order to avoid his marriage obligation to her and to escape supporting their two children. She has filed a lis pendens in the recorder's office in order to give notice of the claim of her and the children against the property.
"On the application before Judge Bliss for temporary alimony Mrs. Snouffer was allowed $100 a month pending the action, $100 attorney's fees and $25 court cost.
"Mr. and Mrs. Snouffer were married in Denver Nov. 18, 1891. Their two children are Hazel May and John, aged 17 and 4 years, respectively."

The Gazette-Telegraph [Colorado Springs, CO] (28 Nov 1909) reported:
"Mrs. Snouffer Gets Divorce in Denver
"According to a report from Denver, Mrs. Ada B. Snouffer of that city was yesterday granted a divorce from her husband, Daniel B. Snoffer [sic], a livery-man of Colorado Springs, the charge she brought being infidelity. Snouffer is [the] proprietor of the West Side Livery stable." (Accessed via www.GenealogyBank.com; Nov 2009).
    • The 1910 census shows Ada B Snouffer, 40, divorced, living with a daughter Hazel "Sickler," 17, born in Colorado. Ada was reported to have borne 2 children, and to have her "own income" rather than an occupation. Hazel is reported to be married, but had no children. 1910 U.S. Census, Ward 10, Denver, Denver Cnty, CO (T 624, Roll 116, stamped p. 138).
    • In the 1920 census, "A. B. Snouffer," 47, lived with her two Colorado-born children, "Hazell M," 22, and John, 14. Watson, 33, born in PA. He was classified as a "nephew," was single, and was employed as an "operator" of motion pictures (presumably running the projectors in a movie theater). 1920 U.S. Census, Denver, Denver Cnty, CO (T 625, Roll 161, stamped p. 211). Watson's CA death cert. does not give the names of his parents, so it is difficult to know his relationship to Ada Belle Lane.
