      "WILLIAMSBURG, VA -- Marshall Davis Waltrip, 91, a lifelong resident of Williamsburg, died Thursday, June 20, 2002 following a courageous battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Dorothy Eugenie Snouffer Waltrip, who died April 27, 1995.
      "Mr. Waltrip was born November 11, 1910 in James City County, VA. He was the son of Benjamin Jesse Waltrip, Jr. and Estelle Booker Waltrip. His paternal grandparents were Benjamin J. Waltrip, Sr. and Susan Ann Davis Waltrip. His maternal grand- parents were George Marshall Booker and Anna Chapman Booker all of James City County, VA. He was a member of the Jamestown Presbyterian Church in Williamsburg and a former member of the First Presbyterian Church in Hampton, VA. He retired from the Newport News Shipbuilding Company after 43 years. At the time of his retirement, he was a design section manager in the Hull Design Division of the Shipyard.
      "Mr. Waltrip was active for many years in the Peninsula S.P.C.A., serving on the Board of Directors and was the recipient in 1972 of an award "For Outstanding Service to the S.P.C.A." He was a lifetime member of the Langley Kennel Club of Hampton, VA and a participant in the activities of the club from its founding in 1940 until his retirement in 1974. He was also lifetime member of the American Spaniel Club of New York. For the past six years, Mr. Waltrip lived independently at Chambrel at Williamsburg. While there, he spent each day visiting with his friends and doing whatever he could to help them to enjoy their lives more fully.
      "He is survived by his children: Margaret Waltrip Robinson, of Hampton, VA, Marsha Waltrip Machon and husband Wayne, of Oxford, NC, Marshall Davis Waltrip, Jr., of Katy, TX; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
      "A funeral service will be held Monday, June 24, 2002.... Interment will follow in the A.F. Booker-Waltrip Family Cemetery."
