    • The 1900 census lists his parents Frank Nelson, 51, born Sep 1848 in Sweden, and Mary A. Nelson, 46, born Jan 1854 in Sweden. Frank emigrated to the U.S. in 1868; Mary in 1866. Living with them were their Iowa-born children: Mabel A, b. Mar 1877; Al L, b. Jan 1879; "Chas E," 19, b. Jan 1881; Fred W, 12, b. Aug 1887; Martin, 9, b. in [Aug??] 1890; and Effie M, 4, b. Jul 1895. 1900 U.S. Census, Boone City, Des Moines Twsp, Boone Cnty, IA (T 623, Roll 418, stamped p. 110B).

In 1920 Martin R. Nelson, 29, born in Iowa, was living as a "roomer" in Minneapolis. He worked as an auto company salesman. Martin is listed as married. His name appears immediately next to that of "Anna Nelson," 27, born in Minnesota; she too is listed as married, but is listed as a "roomer" rather than as a wife. 1920 U.S. Census, Minneapolis, Hennepin Cnty, MN (T 625, Roll 834, stamped p. 46B).

The 1930 census records Martin R Nelson, 39, born in IA, a salesman for "Farmers Protection," perhaps an insurance company. Martin is listed as married 13 years earlier, when he was 26. He was living with his sister Mabel, 53, her husband Charles E Edwins, 60, and their son Winfred C, 24. 1930 U.S. Census, Minneapolis, Hennepin Cnty, MN (T 626, Roll 1098, stamped p. 190B).

The Social Security Death Index provides that Martin Nelson (SSN 470-18-9483; issued by MN) was born 1 Aug 1890 and died in Jul 1972 while residing in St. Petersburg, Pinellas Cnty, FL.
