  • Notes
    • The 1880 census shows his father, Amos Thomas, 33, a farmer, living with his wife "Hatte E," 32, and 5 children: George L, 10; Lottie, 8; Mildred, 5; Nellie L, 3; and Amos, 1. All family members were born in Maryland. Also in the home was John Willis, a black servant. 1880 U.S. Census, Buckeystown Dist, Frederick Cnty, MD (T 9, Roll 509, stamped p. 5).

T.J.C. Williams & F. McKinsey, HISTORY OF FREDERICK COUNTY, p. 1413 (1910), wrote that George L. was living in Washington, D.C.

In 1930 George was a patient at St. Elizabeth's hospital in Washington, D.C., a psychiatric hospital. He is listed as George L. Thomas, 60, born in "United States." 1930 U.S. Census, Washington, D.C., (T 626, Roll 302, stamped p. 40 B). He may have been there for many years, because the 1910 census shows his wife and children living in Washington, D.C. without him in the home; and the 1920 census lists her as a "widow" living in D.C. See her Notes.

      (Research):
There may be a question whether George L. and Alida are buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. George L. Thomas, Genealogy of the English Thomas Family, p. 53 (G. L. Thomas, Adamstown, MD: 1956) states that they are at Mt. Olivet. However, a July, 2011, report from Mt. Olivet states that the cemetery has no record of them.
