    • Wedding announcement, The [Frederick, MD] Daily News, p. 5 (7 Dec 1912):
      "One of the prettiest weddings of the season took place Tuesday, Dec. 3, at 6 p.m. in Waverly, the home of the bride, when Mr. Preston C. Phillips, of Washington, D.C. and Miss Hannah A. Snouffer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Snouffer, of Adamstown, were married....
      "Miss Frances Mainhart, of Poolesville, acted as maid of honor, the groom being attended by Mr. Paul Snouffer, brother of the bride. The wedding followed the reception, which took place at 3.30.
      "The bride entered the parlor with her maid of honor to the strains of Lohengrin's wedding march....
      "The house was beautifully decorated with evergreens.
      "After an extended trip, Mr. and Mrs. Phillips will reside in Washington, where the groom is engaged in business."

      In 1920 the census lists Preston, 44, born in North Carolina, living with his wife Hannah, 33, born in Maryland and 6-yr old daugher "Meta P.," born in Washington, D.C. Preston was employed as a "Merchant, Furniture" on his "own account." 1920 U.S. Census, Washington, D.C. (T 625, Roll 213, stamped p. 230).

      The 1930 census shows Preston, 52, born in North Carolina, living in Washington, D.C. with his wife Hannah, 42, born in Maryland, and Washington, D.C.-born daughters Meta, 16, and "Elsie," 7. Preston was a furniture store merchant. 1930 U.S. Census, Prct 10, Washington, D.C. (T 626, Roll 301, stamped p. 115B).
