    • The 1880 Oregon census lists "Liona L", 9, born in Illinois, and living "at home" with her mother. 1880 U.S. Census, Cedar Creek prct, Washington Cnty, OR (T 9, Roll 1084, p. 376) [LDS Film 1255084].

      The 1900 census shows Liona M Elsfelder, 27, born Jun 1872 in Illinois to parents born in Germany, living with her husband of 5 years, George W, 43, born Feb 1857 in Ohio to parents born in Ohio, and their son Walter L, 4, born March 1896 in Oregon. George was employed as a saw mill helper. 1900 U.S. Census, Ward 11, Portland, Multnomah Cnty, OR (T 623, Roll 1351, stamped p. 78).

      In 1910 the family was living in Columbia Cnty. The census lists George W, 53, living with his wife of 14 years, Liona M, 37 and their 3 Oregon-born children: Walter L, 14; Glenn W, 5; and Howard O, 3. George was still employed as a saw-mill laborer. 1910 U.S. Census, Oak Point, Columbia Cnty, OR (T 624, Roll 1279, stamped p. 66B).

      In 1920 the family lived across the Columbia River in Washington. The 1920 census lists George, 62, living with Liona, 47, and their 3 sons: Walter, 23; Glenn, 15; and Howard 13. George was employed as a laborer in a shipyard; Walter was a college student, and Glenn, a high school student. 1920 U.S. Census, Fourth Plain Prct, Clark Cnty, WA (T 625, Roll 1921, stamped p. 259).

      By 1930 the family was reduced to George, 73, and "Eiona," 58. George had taken up farming as an occupation. Their three sons had moved on. 1930 U.S. Census, Salmon Crk Prct, Clark Cnty, WA (T 626, Roll 2485, stamped p. 65).

      According to her sister Gertrude's obituary in the Sherwood [OR] Valley News (31 Aug 1939), Liona was named as "Mrs. Liona Marks" and lived in Sherwood, Or.

      According to her Oregon Death Certificate (# 2837; 29 Apr 1946), "Liona Marks," a widow, died 28 Apr 1946, at the Oregon State Hospital in Salem, Marion Cnty, OR, of heart failure ("myocardial degeneration"). She had been hospitalized for 1 yr, 8 months. The certificate states that she was born 7 Jun 1872 in Freeport, IL, and that her parents were Charles Brandt and Fredricka Weckert, both born in Germany.
