    • The 1880 Oregon census lists "Gertrude U" as 11 years old and living "at home" with her mother. The census states that she was born in Iowa. 1880 U.S. Census, Cedar Creek Prct, Washington Cnty, OR (T 9, Roll 1084, stamped p. 376) [LDS Film 1255084].

      Archie's marriage to Gertrude is extracted from official records in May R. Lepschat & G.S. Balfour, Washington County Oregon Records, Marriage Records, 1881-1896, vol. 2, p. 69 (Genealogy Forum of Portland; 1972); and republished in Gyneth S. Balfour, Washington County Oregon Records, Marriage Records, 1881-1896, vol. 2, p. 69 (The Genealogical Forum of Portland, Oregon, Inc; 1975):
      "Archie Campbell & Gertie M Brandt, both of Washington co, m 19 Apr 1893 at the house of Mrs Brandt; S Weckert, John Campbell, Wits; Thomas Newlin, president, Pacific College, Newberg. p. 479."
      The witness John Campbell was Archie's older brother, and the witness "S. Weckert" was related somehow to Gertrude's side of the family..

      The 1900 census lists Gertrude and Archie Campbell living on their farm in Washington County, OR. Gertrude is recorded as born in Feb, 1869, in Iowa. Her parents are shown as having been born in Germany. The census states that she was 31 years old and had been married for 7 years. The census also reports that her brother-in-law John was living with them. 1900 U.S. Census, West Cedar Creek Prct, Washington Cnty, OR (T 623, Roll 1353, stamped p. 251).

      The 1910 census provides that "Gertrude M" Campbell was 41 years old, had been married 17 years, and was the mother of 2 children. Her place of birth is listed as Iowa; her father's place of birth and language are listed as "Ger German"; and her mother's as "Ger German." 1910 U.S.Census, West Cedar Prct, Washington Cnty, OR (T 624, Roll 1291, stamped p. 272).

      The 1930 census indicates that Gertrude, 61, and her husband Archie, 69, have been married 37 years. Living with them was their daughter Eva, 36, and her husband of 11 years, Ralph E. Knight, 36, who was born in North Dakota, together with two sons who were born in Connecticut: Alan C., 7, and Ralph A., 4 yrs. Ralph was a Congregational pastor and Eva was a sales agent for a ladies merchandise manufacturing company. 1930 U.S. Census, Sherwood, Washington Cnty, OR (T626, Roll 1957, stamped p. 188B).

      Obituary, Sherwood [OR] Valley Times, p. 1 (31 Aug 1939):
      "Long Time Resident Passes to the Beyond
      "Mrs. Gertrude Margaret Campbell, 70, wife of Archie Campbell, died suddenly at her home near this city Friday morning, August 25. Survivors are the widower, Archie Campbell, of Sherwood; two daughters, Mrs. Eva Knight, of Beaverton, and Mrs. Flora Illinsky [sic], of Portland; two sisters, Mrs. Rosa Brown, of San Francisco, and Mrs. Liona Marks, of this city; two brothers, Henry Brandt, of Pleasant Valley, Oregon, Frank Brandt, of Creed [sic], Colo., and four grandchildren.
      "Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Sherwood M. E. church.... Interment was in Pleasant Hill cemetery....
      "Gertrude Margaret Brandt, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Brandt, was born in Iowa February 6, 1869. Soon after her birth the family moved to Illinois where they lived until 1877, when they came to Oregon and settled near this city, and this community had ever since been her home.
      "She married Archie Campbell April 19, 1893, and her married life had been devoted to husband and family and to the upbuilding of the religious life of the community."

      Her tombstone in the Pleasant View Cem, on SW Westfall Rd near Sherwood, OR, reads simply: "Gertrude M. Campbell, 1869 - 1939".
