  • Notes
    • By the time of the 1880 census, her father had moved the family back to Virginia, and lived next door to his father. The census shows "Crousehorn P. Elbert," 32, living with his wife "Annie J," 36, and children: Elizabeth, 9; "Murtie," 7; Robert, 6; William, 4; and "Flora," 2. P.E. was employed as a farmer. 1880 U.S. Census, Rappahannock, Fauquier Cnty, VA (T 9, Roll 1365, stamped p. 244B).

In the 1900 census, "Lizzie Croushorn," 29, born Nov. 1870 in Ohio, was living in Nebraska with her uncle, Henry C. Kerr, 52, a widower, born in Sep. 1847 in Ohio. Henry was working as an insurance agent; no employment was listed for Elizabeth. 1900 U.S. Census, Hastings, Ward 2, ED 9, Adams Cnty, NE (T 623, Roll 916, written p. 10B) [Elizabeth's surname is indexed as "Cronshoris"].

Henry, 62, and Lizzie, 36, were still living in Nebraska in 1910. Henry was employed in the fire insurance and real estate businesses; Lizzie was unemployed. 1910 U.S. Census, Hastings, Ward 2, Adams Cnty, NE (T 624, Roll 838, stamped p. 81)[this time the indexer got Lizzie's surname right!].

By 1920 Elizabeth had moved to Illinois and was living with her sister Florence and family. The 1920 census lists 41-yr old William Campbell, his wife Florence, 42, and 7 children, along with Elizabeth Croushorn, 45, who is listed as "single." 1920 U.S.Census, Kendall twsp, Kendall Cnty, IL (T 625, Roll 380, stamped p. 42).
    • Late in life, Lizzie married Robert C. Harris. Los Angeles County Marriage License 329 (Book 921, p. 66), was issued Jan 13, 1990. The license noted that Robert was 70 yrs old, a resident of Bell, CA and a "native" of Virginia; and that Elizabeth was 58 and a "native" of Ohio. The couple married 2 days later, 15 Jan 1930, in Huntington Park, CA. See: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:K8NY-NC3
    • The 1930 census provides that Robert C. Harris, 72, born in VA to VA-born parents, was living with his wife Elizabeth, 58, born in OH. Robert was retired. The census suggests that Elizabeth was first married at age 58. 1930 U.S. Census, Bell, Los Angeles Cnty, CA (T 626, Roll 171, stamped p. 46B).
    • Yorkville or Aurora, IL newspaper Obituary [probably Kendall County Record] (17 Mar 1937):

"Funeral services will be held from Healy chapel.... Interment will be in [illegible] Aurora cemetery."

A similar obituary can be found in the records at the cemetery.

Sarah Margaret Croushorn's notes on Elizabeth read:
"Born in Hillsboro, Ohio, Nov. 25, 1870. Married Robert Harris of Bell, Calif. No Children. Died March 13, 1937; Buried at Aurora, Ill."
