It states that he was born in Jul 1862 [sic] in Ohio, that his occupation was as a blacksmith, and that his father was born in Maryland and his mother in Ohio, and that he had been married 9 years [the 1900 census entry for his wife shows that they were divorced]. 1900 U.S. Census, Joliet Twsp, Will Cnty, IL (T 623, Roll 353, stamped p. 218).

By 1910 William was out of prison, married to another woman, and had returned to Atlantic, IA, to live. Later he pursued his trade in Atlantic. He loved music and could sit down and play the piano and yodel to everyone's delight. He was married to Katharine Magdalene Talty, and they had two children, Frances Ann and John."
