  • Notes
    • "A marriage record for Jacob Snauffer has not been located. It is presumed that his marriage took place in Pennsylvania, probably Berks County, and that the mother of his three children was Catherine, otherwise unidentified. 'Catherin' is named as his wife in a deed made in Montgomery County, Va. 11 April 1808." (THE SNUFFERS, p. 62, citing Montgomery Deed Book D, p. 577)

The 1790 U.S. Census for Pennsylvania lists her husband as "Snauffer, Jacob", living in Berks County, Robeson Township. The census lists 1 "free white male" over 16 [Jacob], 1 under 16 [son John], and 3 "free white females" [wife Catharin and daughters Polly and Caty]. 1790 U.S. Census, Robeson twsp, Berks Cnty, PA (M 637, Roll 8, stamped p. 116). Also see HEADS OF FAMILIES AT THE FIRST CENSUS OF THE UNITED STATES TAKEN IN THE YEAR 1790, PENNSYLVANIA, p. 41 (Genealogical Pub. Co., Baltimore, MD, 1966).

The 1810 census does not list Catharin by name, but it does reflect that only one female was living with head of household "Jacob Snuffer." 1810 U.S. Census, Montgomery Cnty, VA (M 252, Roll 70, stamped p. 79).
