    • The 1880 census lists Euphemia as a 6-yr old student living with her parents "Jessie A," 49, and Mary C, 42, and siblings: Nelson, 23; "May", 18; Jessie; Edward P, 13; Moses, 9, and Angelo, 8. All of the family, adults and children, were born in Maryland. 1880 U.S. Census, 1st Ward, Cedar Rapids, Linn Cnty, IA (T 9, Roll 351, stamped p. 73).
    • The 1900 census lists "Effie" Seabrook as a 27-yr old woman, living with her sister Mary's family: "Jas H" Hughes, 38, Mary, 37, and their daughter Adele, 9. Effie's birth date is listed as Jan 1873. Her occupation is "stenography." 1900 U.S. Census, 5th Ward, Cedar Rapid, Linn Cnty, IA (T 623, Roll 444, stamped p. 177).

      The 1910 census shows "Louis J" Baschnagel, 38, living with his wife Euphemia A, 36, and the following children: "Catherine M," 8, "Helen A," 7; "Gertrude A," 5; and "Joseph A," 5 months. Effie was born in Maryland, the others in Iowa. Lou apparently made and sold lightening rods. 1910 U.S. Census, Iowa City, Johnson Cnty, IA (T 624, Roll 408, ED 90, stamped pp. 206-B, 207).

      In 1920 the census records Louis J Baschnagel, 48, his wife Effie A, 45, and these children: "Catharine M," 18; Helen A, 16; Gertrude A, 14; Joseph A, 10; Agnes L, 5; and Mary Ann, 3. Lou was a "Secretary" for a Rubber Co. 1920 U.S. Census, Iowa City, Johnson Cnty, IA (T 625, Roll 496, ED 98, stamped p. 155).

      The 1930 census lists "L.J." Baschnagel, 58, "Effie," 56, and children: "Catherine," 28; "Helen," 26, Gertrude, 24; Joseph, 20; Agnes, 16; and "Marianne," 14. Also living in the home was Effie's brother Edward Seabrook, 63, a widower. Lou was employed as a "clerk" in a "state hospital." Catherine and Gertrude were "social service" workers in a "Social Agency." Helen was a hospital dietician. 1930 U.S. Census, Iowa City, Johnson Cnty, IA (T 626, ED 19, stamped p. 165).

      "Mrs. Baschnagel Dies Saturday [11 Oct]; Rites Tomorrow
      "Mrs. Euphemia Baschnagel, 73, wife of Lou Baschnagel, Iowa City, died at 1:15 p.m. Saturday at University hospital after an illness of several years.
      "Mrs. Baschnagel was born in Maryland in 1874 and was married to Mr. Baschnagel September 12, 1900.
      "A resident of Iowa City more than 47 years, she was a member of St. Mary's church and of the Altar and Rosary society of that church.
      "Surviving her are the husband; five daughters, Catherine Baschnagel, New York City, Sister Euphemia, member of the Sisters of Charity order, New Orleans, Mrs. Gertrude Dougherty, St. Louis, Mrs. Agnes Heller, Los Angeles, and Mary Ann Baschnagel, Iowa City; one son, Joseph, Cuba, N.Y.; and three grandchildren.
      "Funeral services will be held ... tomorrow morning [14 Oct]..., with burial in St. Joseph's cemetery...."
