- The 1900 census lists "Philip A," a baby, born in Maryland in Nov 1899, living with his parents and 2 siblings. 1900 U.S. Census, Emmitsburg Dis, Frederick Cnty, MD (T 623, Roll 622, stamped p. 186).
The 1920 census lists "Snauffer, Allan" as a single, 21 year old clerk for the Pennsylvania railroad, living in a boarding house in Baltimore. 1920 U.S. Census, 5th Ward, Baltimore, Baltimore Cnty, MD (T 625, Roll 659, stamped p. 46).
He is listed in the 1930 census as "Snouffer, Allen R," a 30 year old man, born in Maryland, living in Hauvers, Frederick Cnty, MD, and probably working as a clerk in the Maryland State Sanitorium. 1930 U.S. Census, Hauvers, Frederick Cnty, MD (T 626, Roll 874, ED 30, p. 1A).
The Frederick [MD] Post, p. 5 (21 May 1936), states:
"Francis Roy Snouffer, Emmitsburg, and Miss Margaret E. Spencer, Baltimore, were married at a nuptial mass in St. Joseph's Catholic church, Emmitsburg, Sunday morning at 9 o'clock.... Miss Ursula Spencer, Baltimore, sister of the bride was bridesmaid, and Allen Snouffer, brother of the bridegroom, was best man."
The Frederick [MD] Post, p. 3 (8 Dec 1947), reported:
"Emmitsburg -- A double celebration was held on Nov. 30 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Guy A. Baker, it being the birthday anniversay ... [of one couple] and the first wedding anniversy of [another couple]. Those present at the dinner ... were ... Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Snouffer, ... [and] Mr. and Mrs. Allan Snouffer of State Sanatorium...."
Obituary, The News [Frederick, MD], p. 8 (26 Mar 1966), and The Post [Frederick, MD], p. 5 (26 Mar 1966):
"Allen R. Snouffer, 66, of 812 Park Street, Hagerstown, died at 1:55 a.m. Thursday [24 Mar] at the Waynesboro [PA] Hospital where he had been confined since Wednesday morning [23 Mar] after suffering a heart attack. He was stricken at his home.
"Mr. Snouffer was born at Emmitsburg, Nov. 28, 1899, a son of the late Philip and Mary (Saffer) Snouffer. He was reared at St. Mary's Industrial School, Baltimore, following the death of his parents. Following his graduation he worked in Baltimore.
"He went to work in 1923 at Victor Cullen State Hospital, near Sabillasville [MD], and was employed there as an accounting clerk for 40 years prior to his retirement.
"He and Mrs. Snouffer were married in June 1944 and had made their home on Park Street for the last six years.
"Mr. Snouffer was a member of the St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church and the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the Eagles Club, Inc.
"He is survived by his widow Mrs. Alma F. Dayton Snouffer. He was the last of his immediate family.
"Requiem Mass will be celebrated ... Saturday [26 Mar].... Burial will be in St. Andrew Cemetery."
