"From the way I understand it from my mother [Loretta Mae Snouffer], who was Alan's cousin, Loretta [Irene Snouffer] became pregnant with Alan while still single. She never married Samuel Stout, and Loretta's parents, Stanley and Cora raised Alan. I only found the name of Alan's father after paying a visit to the Maryland archives and finding a birth entry for the day I knew Alan was born, to a Loretta Snouffer and Samuel Stout. Due to laws in Maryland the birth certificates are still sealed for any further information. As far as I know, Samuel never had anything to do with Alan's upbringing. Alan was given the Snouffer name. Everything for Alan that I have lists him as Snouffer, his Korean war record, and his tombstone, plus my mom knowing Snouffer was his last name."
