    • The 1930 census lists his father Forrest, a 41 year old oil pipe line laborer, born in Iowa, living with his wife of 7 years, Sylvia P, 25, born in Kansas, and children: Roy A, 6, born in Colorado; Richard W, 4 & 8/12ths, born in Colorado; and Maxine R, 4 months, born in Wyoming. Also living with them were his uncle (Sylvia's brother) William J. Shaffer, 24, and his wife Edna M., 19. 1930 U.S. Census, ED 2, Natrona Cnty, WY (T 626, Roll 2624, stamped p. 30) [an indexer has Forrest's name as "Ferris A. Neuens," his wife as "Szilvia," son Roy as "Roz," and daughter Maxine as "Marine"!!]
    • The 1940 census shows his parents "Forrest A Newins," 52, and Sylvia, 34, and the following children: Roy A, 17, and Richard W, 14, both born in Colorado; and Maxine R, 10; Charles John, 8; and Bonnie Lee, 6, all born in Wyoming. 1940 U.S. Census, ED 13-3, Dutch Camp, Natrona Cnty, WY (T 627, Roll 4573, stamped p. 18).
    • In a June 2014 Email, Roy's son Ken wrote:
      "My Dad Roy was born in Snyder, CO, Morgan County. The family moved to Midwest Wyoming.... Dad joined the US Navy in early 1941 and remained in the Navy through WWII. He was a survivor of the Pearl Harbor attack, serving aboard the USS Tennessee. After the war he worked construction and married mom in 1948, then worked as a civilian employee for the Army at the Pueblo (CO) Army Depot. He was recalled for active duty in the Navy in 1951 through 1952 during the Korean War, then returned to the "Depot", retiring in 1979."
    • According to the Social Security Death Index, Roy A. Newens (SSN 568-32-4808; issued in California) was born 13 Oct 1923 and died 18 Aug 2004 while residing in Fowler, Otero Cnty, CO.
