  • Notes
    • When the 1910 Ohio census occurred, Clarence was living with his uncle Charles and family. Oddly, even though the census lists him as 21 years old, it also provides that he was a high school student. 1910 U.S. Census, Perry twsp, Franklin Cnty, OH (T 624, Roll 1183, stamped p. 202).

Clarence registered for the draft on 5 Jun 1917. He provided his birth date, indicated that he was single, and that he was working as a machine operator for the Pennsylvania RR. Later, on 15 May 1918 he enlisted and served in the military as a Private until he was honorably discharged 21 Jan 1919. Official Roster of Ohio Soldiers, Sailors and Marines in the World War, 1917-1918 , p. 16255 (F.J. Heer Printing Co., Columbus, OH: 1926), via www.Ancestry.com (accessed Feb 2008).

Clarence was living in Columbus when the census was taken in 1920. It shows him as a 31 year old railroad machinist, living with his wife Margaret, 25. 1920 U.S. Census, Ward 7, Columbus, Franklin Cnty, OH (T 625, Roll 1381, stamped p. 302B).

The 1930 census lists Clarence, a 41 year old steam railroad machinist, living with only his wife Margaret, 36, who was born in Ohio of parents who were born in Northern Ireland. (This may explain in part why the names of Patrick, Kathryn and Mary Donahue appear on the reverse side of Clarence and Margaret's tombstone in the St. Joseph Catholic cem.) 1930 U.S. Census, Columbus, Franklin Cnty, OH (T 626, Roll 1801, stamped p. 65B).

The Social Security Death Index records that "C. H. Snouffer" (SSN 717-01-2709) was born 26 Aug 1888 and died 23 Dec 1981, that he had lived in Virginia, and that he was classified among "long-time or retired railroad workers."
