- The 1870 census reported that 8-yr old "Willie Armstrong," was living with his grandparents, "Snoffer, John," a 52-yr old "Farmer" and Julia, 47, and their daughter "Sintha," 21, his aunt. 1870 U.S. Census, Perry twsp, Franklin Cnty, OH (M 593, Roll 1200, p. 679).
The 1880 census shows the 4 of them still living together: "Snoffer [sic], B. John," a 62 yr old farmer, living with his wife Julia, 57, who was "keeping house," daughter Sylvania, 32, who "assists in home," and grandson William Armstrong, 19. 1880 U.S. Census, Perry twsp, Franklin Cnty, OH (T 9, Roll 1015, p. 171).
The 1900 census lists William E, 38, living with his wife "Lelie," 33, born in Indiana, and 3 Ohio-born children: son "Elza N," 9, born Oct 1890; and daughters "Gladus," 8, born Oct. 1891; and Helen, 2, born Aug 1897. William was employed as a railroad clerk. 1900 U.S. Census, Ward 6, Toledo, Lucas Cnty, OH (T 623, Roll 1297, stamped p. 301B).
The 1910 census records "Wm. E. Armstrong," 48, living with his wife "Leanor," 43, and 4 children: son "Ellsworth," 19; and daughters Gladys, 18; Helen 12; and Mary E, 1. William worked as a freight agent for the railroad; Ellsworth worked as a railroad clerk. 1910 U.S. Census, Ward 12, Toledo, Lucas Cnty, OH (T 624, Roll 1210, stamped p. 262B).
William's Ohio Death Certificate # 16897 (31 Mar 1915) indicates that he was a traveling salesman for the W. H. Warner Coal Co.
