    • According to granddaughter Barbara Hannon, Hans died in a railroad accident in 1909, on the Rock Island Railroad line, in or near Cedar Rapids, IA, when a load of wood rolled off a flatbed car and crushed him to death.

      Obituary, Cedar Rapids [IA] Evening Gazette, p. 14 (26 Jun 1909):
      "Funeral of H. C. Jensen.
      "The funeral of Hans Christian Jensen, who was killed on the Rock Island railroad Thursday, will be held from the residence, 602 North Fourth street west at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, with interment in Linwood cemetery."
