  • Notes
    • The 1870 census shows her father Benjamin, 48, a carpenter, living with Caroline, 32 [sic], who was "keeping house," and the following children: "John T. M," 13; Frances E, 7; Florence E, 4; and Caroline, 6 months. All had been born in MD. 1870 U.S. Census, Dist 4, Carroll Cnty, MD (M 593, Roll 582, stamped p. 401B, lines 17-22).
    • In 1880 the census records her father Benjamin W Byers, 58, still employed as a carpenter, living with 4 of his children: Frances E, 17; Florence, 13; Grace, 7; and son Pinkney, 5. All had been born in MD. 1880 U.S. Census, Dist 4, Carroll Cnty, MD (T 9; Roll 506, stamped p. 351, lines 41-45). [Because of the census taker's handwriting, Benjamin's surname is often indexed as "Byess" rather than "Byers".]
    • The 1900 census lists Charles Moore, 47, born Sep 1852 in CT, and Florence, 33, born Jul 1866 in Maryland, living with her son Norman S, 16, born Mar 1884 in Maryland. Charles was employed as a railroad watchman. 1900 U.S. Census, North Canaan, Litchfield Cnty, CT (T 623, Roll 140, stamped p. 245).
