  • Notes
    • There is some ambiguity about Frank's birth year. Ohio birth indexes record that he was born in 1883. But, as mentioned below, the 1900 census, his WW I draft card, and the 1930 census all state that he was born in 1882. It seems more likely to me that the birth indexes record the accurate information from the original birth certificate (which, of course, needs to be verified).
    • The 1900 census lists Frank C, an 18-yr old farm laborer, born in June 1882 in Ohio, living with his parents and 8 siblings. 1900 U.S. Census, Perry Twsp, Franklin Cnty, OH (T 623, Roll 1270, stamped pp. 184-185). Frank's name (under a variety of alternative spellings) does not appear in either the 1910 or 1920 censuses.

Frank left Ohio and disappeared from contact with the Snouffer family. The general impression was that he went to Washington State early in his life, and was an "outcast" of the family. In 2005, Frank's niece, Marge Snouffer Harris Bennett [1343] told John Snouffer that she thought that Frank had gone to Minnesota, not Washington. (Email from John I. Snouffer to Wm.C.Snouffer (24 Mar 2005).
    • Frank's World War I draft card, dated Sep 1918, validates the information about Minnesota. It indicates that in 1918 he was living in Minneapolis, Hennepin Cnty, MN; that he was 36 years old, born 21 June 1882, and was married to and living with (his second wife) "Mrs. Laura Snouffer." He was employed as an "Engineer R.R.," for the "G.R. [Great Northern] Ry Co." He was of medium height and build, and had blue eyes and dark hair.
    • According to the 1930 census, Frank C "Snoffer," 48, was a single "roomer" and still working as an engineer for a railroad company. 1930 U.S. Census, Minneapolis, Hennepin, Cnty, MN (T 626, Roll 1089, stamped p. 244B).
    • The 1940 census shows Frank "Snauffer," 55, a widower, living as a lodger in Minneapolis, MN. He was a locomotive engineer for a "steam railroad company." 1940 U.S. Census, Minneapolis, Hennepin Cnty, MN (T 627, Roll 1986, stamped p. 4140).
