    • Lois Hall Snouffer has written, in From Schnaufer to Snouffer, pp. 47-48 (2013):

"Virginia Durbin was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Durbin and Mary Ellen Craine and was born June 1, 1884, in Frostburg, Maryland. She was reared in Altoona, Pennsylvania with a younger brother, William Scott and an older half-sister Mary Effie. At the age of nineteen she was married to Ira Milton Snouffer. The marriage took place January 20, 1904, at St. John's Rectory in Altoona, Pennsylvania with the Rev. Father Morgan M. Sheedy officiating. They had three children, Ira Durbin, Eugene Harold and Mary Virginia, all born in Altoona. Her husband, Ira, worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad and in 1910 she and her husband and their three children moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana, where she lived until her death January 14, 1952.***
"The information that comes from family stories indicates she was an independent woman for her time, was a member of the Catholic Church, but was not what you would call 'devout', when her husband was Protestant and an active member of the Masonic Lodge. She was an avid reader, and smoked cigarettes, when most women in her generation did not. Her life must have been that of the typical 'housewife' of the day; but according to her grandchildren, she was not the typical 'Grandma' of the day. She did not 'baby sit' and did not visit them often, even though 'Grandpa' did. At the time of her death, Virginia Durbin Snouffer was 67 years old and living with her daughter. She is buried beside her husband in Greenlawn Cemetery in Fort Wayne."
