  • Notes
    • The 1850 Indiana census shows "Wincent G.", 9 years old, born in Maryland, living with his father "John Snaffer," 36, a cooper, and mother, Sarah, 29, and 3 siblings. 1850 U.S. Census, Scott Twsp, Montgomery Cnty, IN (M 432, Roll 161, stamped p. 526)[Even though the "W" is written as a "W" -- just like a "William" a few lines above "Wincent" -- I'm confident that it should have been "Vincent."]
    • A "George B." or "George V." Snouffer served as a private in the Ohio Infantry (National Guard), 133d Regiment, Company E. See http://wwww.civilwar.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.htm (citing National Archives film 552, roll 101) (accessed 28 Jan 2006). In History of Franklin and Pickaway Counties, Ohio, p. 153 (Williams Bros. Printers; 1880), he is listed as a private in Company E. His uncle, David Snouffer, and his cousins, John B. and John H. Snouffer, also served in the same regiment and company. "George V. Snoffer"[sic] claimed a Civil War Pension on 19 Mar 1898. The claim was filed in Louisana. The records show that he served in: "E, 133, Ohio Inf."
